Marsh claimed significant health issues in his pension records after the war. In his surgeon records from 1906, the doctore writes, "Diease of stomach; malarial poisoning; diarrhea; disease of rectum; scurvy; disease of mouth: Tongue is coated brown and fissured. Teeth are all gone. Gums are atrophied and are red... is flatuelent... idease of left eye... diease of lungs... disease of kidneys..." Despite the fact that his only wartime ailment appeared to be dysentary, he claimed many afflictions as a part of his pension file.
